Student Athlete Planning Services was founded by long-time coach, Phil David. After playing elite level minor hockey as a goalie in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia through the 70’s and early 80’s, Phil was being recruited by Princeton during his senior high school year. With no guidance, he flew by the seat of his pants, blew the SAT’s and when the opportunity was quickly lost due to ill-informed choices (and perhaps a high GAA), he promised that when he began coaching, none of his players would ever miss a chance like he did due to lack of information or planning.
Phil is a Dalhousie Kinesiology and MBA graduate with 20 years of multi-national corporate marketing experience. He is also a 16 year, Hockey Canada Advanced Level coach with extensive experience at all levels and ages. He has spent most of the past decade coaching AAA, Junior A and Pro overseas. During that time, Phil has ‘seen and heard it all’, having mentored dozens of players who progressed from minor hockey into Tier II, Major Junior, NCAA and the NHL. Some of those players include:
Phil's passion for hockey is matched by his dedication to helping serious student-athletes strive to achieve their academic and athletic goals. After a decade of implementing an evolving M.A.P. (My Action Plan™) process with his own players, Phil launched Student Athlete Planning Services as both a labor of love and to address what he felt was a glaring need in the hockey community stemming from his own playing and coaching experiences.
The unwavering commitment he makes to each client is to provide a comprehensive mix of quality information, guidance and structure - one M.A.P at a time - regardless of the Package you choose. That way, every family can be assured they are entering into a solid partnership in their quest to achieve their academic and athletic goals.
My Action Plan™ is the intensive five-phase coaching process we build for student-athletes to guide them towards their academic and athletic goals.
